Police have uncovered key information on the two main suspects allegedly involved in the hand grenade attack in Dehiwala in which two children were killed, and several teams are now working to arrest them.
The attack took place in the early hours of September 11 at a residence on Sirisangabo Mawatha, Dehiwala. Two children were killed while their father suffered serious injuries to his legs and later underwent an amputation.
The final rites of the two children were held on Monday (14).
The investigation is being conducted under the direct supervision of Western Province Senior DIG Sajeewa Medawatte on the instructions of IGP Priyantha Weerasooriya.
The Mount Lavinia Division Crimes Investigation Bureau has arrested a man suspected of handing over the three-wheeler, allegedly used in the attack, to a garage, to have its colour changed. The owner of the garage was also arrested.
Police questioning the suspects revealed that the attack had allegedly been carried out on the instructions of two individuals, known as “Kos Malli” and “Bodhiyawatte Avishka”, who are also suspected of masterminding the attack.
Several police teams are also searching for the uncle of “Kos Malli”, who is suspected of carrying out the grenade attack. Police said they had obtained important information regarding his whereabouts.
Investigators have also obtained information about the man suspected of driving the three-wheeler used in the attack. Police said he is believed to be a resident of Saranankara Road, Kalubowila.
