Historic Rs 9 billion share transaction by Commercial Credit and Finance boosts bourse

The CSE witnessed a Rs 9 billion sale of shares yesterday by Commercial Credit and Finance to a consortium of investors, which was facilitated by Asia Securities.The sale, which consists of 28 percent of shares held by Group Lease Holdings, a Singaporean company currently in liquidation, is the largest book-built trade in CSE history and the largest single trade at the CSE in 2026.

The Rs 9 billion sale contributed to boost the stock market which has been impacted by risks related to the Middle East conflict.

Commercial Credit and Finance shares closed up 1.65 percent at Rs.107.50.

Amid those developments both indices moved upwards. The All Share Price Index went up by 102.73 points, while the S and P SL20 rose by 28.68 points.

The bourse saw a turnover of Rs 12.24 billion with six crossings, which is the highest recorded market turnover for 2026.

Those crossings were reported in Commercial Credit and Finance where 90 million shares crossed to the tune of Rs 9 billion; its shares traded at Rs 107, United Motors 38 million shares crossed for Rs 1 billion; its shares traded at Rs 27, Dialog Axiata 800,000 shares crossed for Rs 35 million; its shares sold at Rs 44.20, CT Holdings 45000 shares crossed for Rs 23 million; its shares traded at Rs 505, CIC Holdings (Non-Voting) 872,000 shares crossed for Rs 20 million; its shares traded at Rs 25 and Central Finance 90000 shares crossed for Rs 20 million; its shares sold at Rs 424.

In the retail market companies that mainly contributed to the turnover were; Merchant Bank Rs 402 million (18 million shares traded), Commercial Credit and Finance Rs 351 million (3.3 million shares traded), Sampath Bank Rs 137 million (one million shares traded), JKH Rs 119 million (5.9 million shares traded), NTB Rs 75 million (242,000 shares traded), Central Finance Rs 61 million (271,000 shares traded) and Sierra Cables Rs 53 million (1.8 million shares traded). During the day 231 million share volumes changed hands in 16878 transactions.

It is said financial, banking and manufacturing sectors performed well. Commercial Credit and Finance contributed more than 60 percent to the turnover while United Motors’ contributed more than Rs billion due to heavy institutional investor buying. Manufacturing sector, especially JKH, also performed well.

Yesterday the rupee was quoted at Rs 335.40/50 to the US dollar in the spot market from 335.55/60 the previous day, while bond yields edged lower on selected tenors while the rest of the yield curve held steady, dealers said.
