Cumbrous Conscience

The lights are out in the factory,

Human activity is petering out…

Solemn workers are heading home,

To dying hearths and mourning wives,

Today being their last day at work,

But the flabby Captain of Business,

Who thus far called the shots,

Is making good his escape,

Amid the Law’s shrill silence,

His sleek taxi roaring airport-bound,

But the weight on his conscience,

Is as cumbrous as his mounting luggage.
