The Court of Appeal yesterday issued an interim order preventing the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) from summoning of former Attorney General Dappula de Livera to record a statement .
The Court also issued an order preventing the authorities from recording a statement from Dappula de Livera pertaining to activities during his tenure as Attorney General.
The interim order was issued after de Livera filed a petition before the Court of Appeal today over the TID summoning him to record a statement on an opinion he expressed about the Easter Sunday carnage while he was serving as the Attorney General.
Acting on a directive from Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, the TID asked the former Attorney General to call over on 19 and 21 April 2023 to make a statement on a claim he made days before his retirement in 2021 that there had been a grand conspiracy behind the Easter Sunday attacks.
De Livera did not visit the TID headquarters last week and his lawyer went there instead and submitted a seven-page objection letter on his behalf.
