Sallay’s mother seeks an opportunity to meet Prez

C. Sallay, mother of former Head of the State Intelligence Service (SIS) Major General (retd.) Suresh Sallay, has requested an opportunity to meet President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. In a letter dated 23 August, she has urged the President not to extend her son’s detention.

Sallay has been detained in terms of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).

Arrested in the last week of February this year, Sallay has been held on second detention order issued by President Dissanayake in his capacity as the defence minister.

Those campaigning for Sally’s bail recently expressed fears regarding the issuance of a third detention order this week to hold him for a further period of 90 days.

In her letter addressed to President Dissanayake, Sallay’s mother stated that her son had served the Sri Lanka Army for 37 years, dedicating his youth and valuable years that could have been spent with his family to the country.

She has stressed that she is not requesting that any investigation be halted.

She has further emphasised that investigations should be based on evidence and that detention should not be used as a substitute for evidence.
