Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala has emphasised the need to verify claims made by Kehelbaddara Padme and several other gangsters and the wife of one of the most wanted men arrested and brought back to Colombo over the weekend.
The possibility of them making false claims to cause problems to various persons, including law enforcement authorities, couldn’t be ruled out, Minister Wijepala said. The JVPer was responding to The Island queries.
Minister Wijepala said that the CID would verify their statements in accordance with a comprehensive investigation into their activities.
Police obtained detention orders in terms of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) to detain and interrogate the suspects for a period of 90 days.
