Nishan Abeywardena, the head of Air Traffic Control Department, passed away in the morning of 12 December due to a sudden heart attack while on duty.
Abeywardena joined the service as an air traffic controller in 1990 and became the head of air traffic services in 2019 after 29 years of service.
He has received his tertiary education from the University of Wales, UK and holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
A father of a daughter and a son, he was 58 years old at the time of his death.
His remains lie at the Jayaratne “Restpect Home ” at Borella and the last rites are scheduled to performed in the afternoon of December 14 at the general cemetery, Kanatte, Borella.
