Amidst ongoing controversy over the planned banning of corporal punishment on children, the Women’s and Child Affairs Ministry has submitted a Bill to Parliament seeking to amend the Penal Code accordingly.
The Education Ministry said that any instructions or guidelines for schools related to the proposed amendment would be issued only after the conclusion of the parliamentary proceedings in this regard.
Trade unions representing school principals and teachers have expressed serious concern over the move warning of total collapse of discipline in case the government enacted the proposed law.
